The Future for Sprint

Sprint's decision to combine with Nextel and divest the local operations was based on the optimism that the deal would build a larger company with exclusive focus on the growth-oriented wireless business.

Few years after the merger, the company is struggling to retain and grow customers while its larger rivals, AT&T and Verizon continue to add girth.  A change in top leadership and even toying with a WiMAX rollout has so far failed to arrest the problem.

Unless the company quickly turns around its wireless business, it  may find it hard to resist suitors like Verizon or Comcast that  may come calling soon!
